Prof. Suck-Joo NA

Honorary Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)

Biography

• Former President of the Korean Welding and Joining Society
• Former President of the Asian Welding Federation
• Fellow of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology
• Fellow of the American Welding Society
Professor Na joined Xian Jiaotong University in 2018 as Foreign Expert of Long-term 1000 Talent Program of China.
After his Dr.-Ing. degree from TU Braunschweig, Germany in 1983, Professor Na was working at KAIST, Korea, in the field of arc, laser and laser arc hybrid welding process, in which he links the arc physics and multiple reflections in keyhole with weld pool dynamics, metallurgical and mechanical design of welded structures. He has published more than 550 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
Professor Na served as the President of the Korean Welding and Joining Society and Asian Welding Federation, and was appointed an Academician of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, a Fellow of the American Welding Society and a Fellow of International Institute of Welding.
Professor Na’s studies have won many awards, among others Charles H. Jennings Memorial Award from AWS and Yoshiaki Arata Award from IIW, FiDiPro Professorship from Tekes (Finland) and Humboldt research award from Humboldt Foundation (Germany)
