Professor Chen was invited to visit the University of Western Sydney (UWS) in Australia during July 16th to August 2nd in 2009. During his visit two academic reports were given:
(1) On July 22nd:Intelligentized Technologies for Robotic Welding
(2) On July 30th: Visual sensing, modeling and real-time control of weld pool dynamics during pulsed GTAW
During the visit, he met with the director of School of Engineering, Professor Brian UY jiao and talked over the cooperation and exchange of postgraduate based on research projects between the two side; he also met with the assistantdean of College of Health and Science, Ms. Julie, who was in charge of international exchange and discussed joint graduate training between UWS and Shanghai Jiaotong University as well as principles and mechanisms of exchange and so on.
Previously, as UAS’s International Visiting Fellow of project INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH INITIATIVES SCHEME (IRIS) “Autonomous multi-robot system in welding”, Professor Chen Shanben was appointed as the school’s Visiting Professor in June 2009, and successfully applied for Australia Research council-ARC fund alongwith Dr Gu Fang by progect “A vision controlled Autonomous multi-robot welding system”.
Professor Chen Shanben’ visit by request reached three purposes: firstly he carried out Visiting Professor’s international cooperation researching and teaching plan; secondly he discussed collaboration in implementation of ARC project; thirdly according to the institute’s principle of expanding International Cooperative Education, principles and mechanisms of UWS and Shanghai Jiaotong University Joint training and exchange of graduates were discussed and established. This visit had accessed to the prospective tasks, and laid the foundation for international cooperation matters.
